In 2020, 239 leading scientists wrote to the World Health Organisation and warned that Covid-19 was being spread through aerosol transmission inside buildings. Governments around the world slowly began to take note and devise plan to address this challenge.

Our presentation reveals some of the ‘air quality’ key health and safety considerations for operators in the holiday property space. This includes an evidenced based look at the science behind ventilation and air purification and what resort operators might do to protect employees and guests.

The presentation will share a UK based case study; revealing how a simple air purification strategy plays a part in giving holiday guests extra confidence, which in turns optimises the prospects for positive reviews and booking growth.

‘Rise of the Boutique Staycationer’

Richard Coutts FRIBA, Founder & Team Principal, Baca Architects

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our holiday habits – not least in the short term but possibly in the long term and for good. This changing behaviour is also Linked to growing awareness of the contribution of long-distance travel, and in particular airline travel, and its contribution to climate change. Holiday consumers want an escape but also have a growing social conscience of their impact on the planet and seek to find an alternative that addresses these issues.

During the pandemic many people have worked from home. They have rediscovered their gardens during the breaks between confinement have rediscovered the coastline and natural countryside that sits waiting just beyond their front door. Those luxury’s that they have discovered and experienced abroad they have now sought to discover within their own country.

The large hotel model with the bottleneck of the lift and lobby areas are now an issue. Holiday makers seek space, fresh air and to be separated from other guests. Specialist Hospitallers, who were ahead of the game, have found themselves saturated with inquiries and unable to meet demand. It is in this context that the “Boutique Staycationer” has been born and in huge demand.
